Choosing Between Summercamp Programs

Having difficulty finding the proper summercamp programs for your child is a common occurence for every parent.

It is the end of your child’s school year, have you begun thinking about which summercamp is best suited to your child’s goals and needs? With over 7,000 camps across the nation, and more internationally, it's no wonder you’ll find it hard to sort through all the information. Below are some tips to help you find the ideal camp for your child.

Day Camp or Residential Camp: Some kids love the chance to be independent for a week or two, while others get nervous away from home. Consider geography too: a day camp that's far from home means a parent must make the drive twice daily. If your child has special needs, such as medication, consider whether a residential camp will be able to carry out the proper steps to fulfill these needs.

Camp Setting: If you are looking for a day camp, you will want to find camps in your general area. If you're planning on sending your child to a residential camp, however, the possibilities are limitless. Based on your child’s age, you may wish to send them to an area that they're interested in geographically, or to a camp that offers the activities they enjoy. With a high-school age student, you might consider a camp located on a college campus, to give your student a feel as to whether they would like to attend that school or not.
